We Are Real . . .
We are all about being a real family—founded on honest friendships. Life is full of ups and downs. The First Seventh Day Baptist Church of Hebron is here for you, ready to share your joy and provide comfort in your sorrow. That is what a family does. Everyone needs a friend. When you become part of our church, you can count on us to provide a place where you are loved and accepted, where you can know that you are part of a loving family that is eager to know you better.
We Are Rooted . . .
We find our identity in God alone. God planned and carried out all of creation, which reached its fulfillment in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. With no human founder, we are free to go directly to the Bible and Jesus for our needs, including a deeper relationship with God. This rootedness in the Bible is also the reason we choose to attend church on Saturday.
We are also rooted in our community—with our start as a pioneer church on the hill. In 1830, about a dozen men from Alfred, NY came to spy land in Northern Pennsylvania for their homes and farms on what would become known as Crandall Hill— where Hebron township has its beginnings. It has been said that this group of men were so pleased with the land that one man filled his tobacco box with some soil to take back to Alfred and show more interested families. Soon a number of settlers would be coming from Alfred and Berlin, and other towns with Seventh Day Baptist roots. As early as 1832, these early settlers who were clearing land and struggling to establish themselves in this new frontier, would set out to organize a church. On February 10, 1833, a church was formally organized making it the second oldest church in Potter County PA today.
We Are Relevant . . .
We want to help people today to establish a relationship with God and grow closer to Him. We believe that the individual person is free to choose to be part of God’s family and to accept personally the gift of life provided in Jesus Christ. We also encourage you to become your best. God has given you a unique combination of gifts, passion, and strengths with which you
are called to transform the world around you. We want to help you discover your gifts, direct your passion, and develop your strengths so that together we can accomplish the mission God has given to us.
We Are Reaching Out . . .
The First Seventh Day Baptist Church of Hebron is passionate about ministering to the community. Our passion helps shape our mission, and one of the primary missions for our church is reaching out to the local community. That is so because God has given us a heart for the people of our community. The specific ministries that help us fulfill our mission include our hospital ministries, Nursing Home ministry, Pregnancy Care Center support, local benevolence fund, support of the food pantry, and youth programs. The second primary mission of our church is providing opportunities to grow in our Christian walk. We do this because Jesus commanded us to. Our church does this in a number of ways: weekly worship and Sabbath School, weeknight Bible Study, women’s group, opportunities to support international missions, and encouraging one another to serve the church in roles that match our gifts, passion, and strengths.
